This is one of the first pieces of music which I was working on both at my home studio and at Ricky Keller’s Southern Living At Its Finest recording studio. The old one, in the back building on Antone Street, before we moved up the fancier place upstairs and next door. That cave of a studio was a wonderful place. Sometimes I wonder if Ricky would have lasted longer had he not built the new joint upstairs.

I only learned later that ‘Cool, let’s check that’ meant let’s stop, take a listen to the tones, then go for a real take. I just let it roll. My then-engineering verde shows here in this track.

this is a piece way back from 1998, featuring alex lowe on flute, saxophone and music stand. it was the first time alex played on a composition of mine.

this has been kicking around for a long time, and I’ve finally found a place to let it out.

bit of trivia: towards the end of the piece, near where the saxophone outro starts, there’s a noticeable increase in the reverb on the track- while printing the mix, i forgot the reverb was muted (as i was checking out things prior to printing) and didn’t realize until the point where it starts to fade up in the mix. i decided it was a performance mix, and that’s the way it should be. things change.
